Marie-Julie Jahenny and the Wound in the Shoulder

Throughout her life, Our Lord appeared to the approved mystic and stigmatist, Marie-Julie Jahenny (1850-1941).  (She was approved by Bishop Fournier of Nantes in 1875). In addition to prophecies and warnings for our times, He also gave her beautiful prayers and devotions, including a reminder of His most painful and yet almost forgotten Wound of the Shoulder on which He bore the cross.  (Image: Sebastiano del Piombo

Unknown to many Catholics who practise the devotion to this Holy Wound, many believe it was first attributed to St. Bernard and that Christ promised him He would forgive all venial sins and 'no longer remember anyone's mortal sins' if they remembered His Wound once a day --- the indulgence attached to this revelation has been condemned by the Holy See under the reign of Pope Leo XIII!    (Click here for info on other condemned indulgences.)

However, don't worry!

It appears Our Lord is still extremely pleased with this devotion, for He gave to Marie-Julie Jahenny various graces and promises to those who remained faithful in remembering with love His most painful and almost forgotten wound.

Our Lord showed her this gaping, open Wound and revealed its depth: “The Pain is incomprehensible in the hearts of My children!  How this devotion pleases and consoles Me, how often have the prayers of these Wounds risen to My Heart and have torn (open) the (way of) salvation for souls entrusted to Hell.” (May 17, 1878)

Promises and graces revealed to Marie-Julie Jahenny for those who honour His Sacred Wound of the Shoulder:

1 - “I will bless all the souls who propagate this devotion: I grant them abundant graces.” (March 29, 1878)

2 - “O souls who love Me, who propagate this devotion, I take you under My protection, I keep you under the mantle of My affection.” (March 29, 1878)

3 - “I will dispel the darkness that will come to their heart.” (December 28, 1877)

4 - “I will console them in their pains.” “I will come in the midst of their greatest afflictions, to enlighten, to comfort them. I will come and rescue them in their maladies. (February 8, 1878) (28 December 1877,February 8 and April 12, 1878)

5 - “I will come to bless them in their undertakings.” (March 29, 1878)

6 - “I will give them a tender love for the Cross. I will come to assist them at the time of death, with this cross and I will introduce them into My Heavenly Kingdom.” (April 12, 1878) (Note: apparently the grace of having accomplished your Purgatory on earth is one of the graces.)

7 - “I will sweeten their agony.” (December 28, 1877). “I will come at the hour of death. I will console them in their passage.” (February 8, 1878).
“Especially at the hour of death, I will come to give them a sweet moment of calm and tranquillity. I will tell them: 'O good holy soul, who has spread this devotion (knowing) that I had so much at heart that it be made known, come to receive the reward of your labours, the fruit of blessing.'.” (March 29, 1878)

8 - “I will shelter them, I will assist them, I will console all the souls that seek to propagate this Sacred Wound. At the time of death, I will console the souls that have compensated Me by their devotion and compassion to the Wound so deep and painful. I will come to strengthen them in their final fears. I will come and prepare their passage: Thank you, you who have compensated Me for My pains.” (May 17,1878)

9 - “See,” Jesus said, pointing to His Sacred Wound with extreme tenderness, “all My children who have recognised this Wound, who have venerated it, have prayed to it, will have on the Last Day a great and generous reward. I do not simply show it, I pronounce it.  My Word is Divine.” (May 17, 1878)
In obedience to the Holy See, please do not spread the story about St. Bernard, but you can safely spread the promises given to Marie-Julie Jahenny.

Prayer to the Sacred Wound in the Shoulder:
(Please note, this was NOT given to Marie-Julie Jahenny).

"O Loving Jesus, meek Lamb of God, I miserable sinner, salute and worship the most Sacred Wound of Thy Shoulder on which Thou didst bear Thy heavy Cross, which so tore Thy flesh and laid bare Thy Bones as to inflict on Thee an anguish greater than any other wound of Thy Most Blessed Body.  I adore Thee, O Jesus most sorrowful; I praise and glorify Thee, and give Thee thanks for this most sacred and painful Wound, beseeching Thee by that exceeding pain, and by the crushing burden of Thy heavy Cross to be merciful to me, a sinner, and to lead me on towards Heaven along the Way of Thy Cross. Amen."   Imprimatur, Thomas D. Beven, Bishop of Springfield.

  1. The version I have always prayed has "forgive me all my Mortal and Venial sins and to lead me on the path towards Heaven along the way of the cross" is this still allowed to be said? I got it from the Pieta prayer book.

    1. Hi. As long as you know you have to go to Confession regarding mortal sins, and fulfil your Easter Duty, it is okay to say the prayer. You cannot use the Shoulder Devotion as an excuse or means to skip going to Confession, mortal sins must be confessed. God bless.

  2. Hello, Thank you for telling the truth about the Saint Gertrude prayer. Whoever made up this prayer and promise did a great deal of damage because people now think it is so easy to release a soul from Purgatory--it is not! but you have to argue with holy people about it--the ones who pray the Rosary and go to Holy Hours--They have been praying this prayer for years and think they have been delivering thousands of souls--so hard to tell them about this false prayer!!

Have you researched the idea of a forbidden prayer? I was told by someone but cannot recall and I cannot find it online, but the ideas is that when a prayer is prohibited, it cannot be said AT ALL in any form. I recalled when the Vatican forbade the use of the word 'Yahweh' in liturgical music--immediately all the songs we changed to remove that word and all new editions of hymnals eliminated that word. I am not certain about this, which is why I wish you would cite your Catholic source that allows an updated version of a forbidden prayer. Thank you.

    1. The Saint Gertrude prayer to release souls from Purgatory is REAL! It was revealed to her by Our Lord, but He did NOT say it would release 1,000 souls from Purgatory, He only said it would release 'many' souls. The prayer itself is fine, just not the number as somebody made that bit up, and the part praying for the 'Universal Church' was put in later by someone else too. If you want to release many souls, I'd stick to the original prayer offering the Precious Blood for the souls of Purgatory.

Honestly, I haven't heard of a 'forbidden prayer' - only fake or questionable mystics whose books have been forbidden, and if fake promises have been added to REAL prayers. For instance, the "Fifteen Promises" attached to the 15 prayers of St. Bridget of Sweden have been condemend by Pope Leo XIII - there is no proof Our Lord attached promises like that to those prayers. We may say and spread the prayers, but are forbidden from spreading the so-called promises attached to them.
